Working together as a team, the Young Scholar, parent or guardian, and a full-time Foundation educational adviser develop an Individual Learning Plan tailored to the student’s talents, educational goals, and financial situation. Each Young Scholar receives a unique combination of opportunities that may include:
This intensive support typically lasts throughout high school, provided the student continues to do well in school and meets other Foundation expectations. In addition to financial support and advising, each student also has several opportunities to attend extraordinary educational, cultural, and enrichment activities with fellow Young Scholars. Each Scholar attends the orientation “Welcome Weekend” with a parent or guardian during the summer after entering the Young Scholars program. During high school, each Scholar has the opportunity to apply to two competitive and highly rewarding programs—the Advanced Mentorship Program and CivicWeek. Finally, during the summer before their senior year in high school, Scholars attend a “Reunion Weekend” to prepare for the college application process.
