Expectations

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars strive to uphold their status as some of the best and brightest future leaders in the nation.

Scholars are expected to maintain a strong academic record (A’s and B’s) while taking an appropriately challenging course load, which may include honors, advanced placement, international baccalaureate, or college-level courses. To complement their academic studies, Scholars also explore and develop their passions in fine arts, music, drama, civic pursuits, athletics, and other activities.

Young Scholars serve as representatives of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and are expected to act with honesty and personal integrity.  We expect Scholars to demonstrate strength in character and leadership, show concern for their communities, display progress in all academic work, maintain a strong disciplinary record, and collaborate with Foundation staff.

In addition, Young Scholars and their families are expected to work closely and communicate at least once every two weeks with their designated Foundation educational adviser to develop and follow their Individual Learning Plans. 

These expectations are outlined in a Letter of Agreement included in the award packet. The Letter is signed by the Scholar and the Scholar's parent(s) or guardian(s). Families and Scholars discuss program expectations in depth with their educational adviser prior to signing.
