Biography
PROFILE: Candice (Candy) Bickett dedicated herself to her academic goals as she continued to work full-time and volunteer. She worked for the Red Cross in San Diego while studying languages and humanities, subjects in which she excelled at Grossmont College.
At Grossmont College Candice pursued writing and excelled at German. She is committed to working in the fields of education and development.
INSPIRATION: “I strongly believe that the power to facilitate change is obtained through knowledge and understanding.”
ASPIRATION: Candice’s dream is to study peace and conflict resolution at University of California, Berkeley, to serve with the Peace Corps after obtaining her degree, and to seek employment with the International Committee of the Red Cross upon completing her master’s degree.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Since 2004, Candice has volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Services. She also volunteered as a tutor at the Alliance for African Assistance Refugee Center, working with young children through the No Child Left Behind program. She is a team leader and fundraiser for AIDS Walk San Diego, as well as a food drive volunteer with Mama’s Kitchen in San Diego.
ACCOLADES: Candice is the recipient of the Lewis Smith Academic Scholarship at Grossmont College and was on her school’s President’s List from 2006 to 2008.
INTERESTING FACT: In her German class Candice had the opportunity to write poetry in that language.
